Wood Firing Workshop

AVA, Kai Tak Campus, Kowloon, Hong Kong (May 2017)

BACKGROUND.

Wood firing is a traditional pottery firing method, which Hong Kong ceramics artists merely use this firing technique at all. It also allowed potters to obtain raw beauty of natural ash glaze from incinerated wood logs.

It is fortunate that I have joined the wood firing workshop which held by AVA alumni and Kai Tak Centre in May 2017. To obtain unexpected special flame marks and random ash glaze on my works, I tried to throw set of six textured teacups. Some of them resulted with shiny glazed surface, some of them gained obvious flame marks and ash dots.
